Charlie Churchill’s unique brand of contemporary realism combines a devotion to Old-Master technique, with a romantic sense of character.  The artist executes portrait commissions, landscapes, still-life paintings, and narrative figure compositions.  The paintings evolve under Churchill’s brush with the application of indirect oil painting techniques from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries.  His work results from the careful delineation of detail and the interpretation of light and shadow.

Charlie Churchill has an MFA from The New York Academy of Art in New York City.
He has undergraduate degrees from Parson’s School of Design and Lafayette College.  Churchill has studied with Steven Assael, Nancy Chunn, Vince Desiderio, Ted Schmidt, and Wade Schuman. The artist worked in the advertising industry for 15 years as an Art Director and Illustrator.

Charlie Churchill has participated in numerous group shows in New York City and New Jersey over the last 10 years.  He has won awards, grants, and corporate commissions.  His work hangs in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe.  Seaside themed murals in the Blue Mill Tavern in New York City were a recent project.

In the summer of 2005 the artist spent a month plein air painting in Tuscany, Italy.  In June 2006 Churchill completed a collaborative project with artist Al Johnson.  Their portrait of Shirley Chisholm now hangs in Brooklyn’s Boro Hall. Since spring 2007 Churchill has taught figure drawing and painting as an adjunct professor at Lehigh University. “The Back Forty” restaurant at 190 Avenue B (12th street) opened in Sept. 2007, features the artist’s latest mural in its bar. Currently, the artist is a finalist for NJ Transit’s Bayonne, NJ, 22nd Street station mural commission.
